Winter Pruning Keeps Plants Looking Rosy

When it’s cold outside and plants have dropped their leaves it’s a great time to get the tools out and start pruning.

Here’s why….

  • Sort out the 3 D’s: Removing dead, diseased and damaged stems will improve the health of the plant. Try to remove branches that are crossing each other.
  • Put them in their place: pruning climbing or overgrown plants and retraining them to a framework stops them getting out of control.
  • We want more: Pruning helps encourage more flower and fruit production to be enjoyed later in the year. For some plants hard pruning encourages more dramatic foliage.

Remember…. The sharper the tools the cleaner the cuts and don’t be afraid of getting creative.
