OFF WITH THEIR HEADS

Deadhead repeat flowering plants by removing spent flowers through out the summer.

Reasons to treat them mean…

  • Makes them stronger: this technique will encourage bushier, stronger growth.
  • More is more: by preventing seed production the plant will redirect its energy into producing more flowers.
  • Bring the beauty indoors: cut the flower buds just as they’re about to open and put them in a vase with water to enjoy inside – with the peace of mind that there’s more to come.
  • Do your homework: not all plants are repeat flowering, so its good to check before you start snipping. Otherwise you might miss rose hips, berries or seed heads which form interesting structures and food source to winged friends in the winter.
